Mohammed Mhedi I'm so glad to hear Richard's finally on Bandcamp! I first stumbled upon his website in 2016. That was when I first learnt of the hippie trail and when I wanted to learn more, his 1974 trip on his website was one of the top results. Ever since then, I check out his website every so often for updates (which are frequent) and yesterday, I found an announcement saying he finally made a Bandcamp. If you like this, check out his website for more originals and some covers. Great work, Richard!

I was looking for temptation on the road to Shangri-La I travelled fifteen thousand miles following that star I sat outside the Pudding Shop before I headed east I made the big decision and the devil was released Back home they got a postcard in the mail But that was in the good old days Along the Hippie Trail I met a girl on Chicken Street, she took me by the hand She said that it was Karma but I didn't understand So we partied at the Peace Hotel until the deal was done And it was consummated at the rising of the sun Forgive me if I spare you the detail But that was in the good old days Along the Hippie Trail I set out though the passes where the ghosts of Gandamak Remember all the casualties who never made it back I passed the golden temple and I headed for the hills To stop a while at Swayambhu before the winter chills I thought I had a plan that could not fail But that was in the good old days Along the Hippie Trail Beyond the sacred mountain and the mirror in the lake The road is never ending, it's the choices that you make Some long to be enlightened, others nurse their moneybelts They all end up on Freak Street just like everybody else There never was a secret to unveil But that was in the good old days Along the Hippie Trail The green-eyed yellow idol never had a claim on me He never spoke an honest word as far as I can see But I found a living goddess, well I couldn't ask for more She told me to relax and so I headed for the store Where all the fruits of Eden were on sale But that was in the good old days Along the Hippie Trail I headed for the border, I was riding on my luck I lost my way in no-man's-land, I couldn't give a damn But I was busted at the station, they were waiting for my train Just how I made it out of there nobody can explain I never thought I'd live to tell the tale But that was in the good old days Along the Hippie Trail I made it home eventually, I often wonder how I'd offer an apology but it doesn't matter now It taught me to be natural, it taught me to survive I came home empty-handed but I made it back alive I even managed to stay out of jail But that was in the good old days Along the Hippie Trail Bom Shankar!
